Why CBD Hemp Oil Is Just Not Enough Sometimes

Not a lot of people understand exactly what is the distinction between “CBD hemp oil” and “CBD cannabis oil”, or that there even is a distinction in the first place. I’ll try to explain briefly for those who don’t know. If a product is labelled as a ‘CBD hemp oil’, it means that it was sourced purely from the ‘hemp’ plant rather than a THC-filled ‘cannabis’ plant. Hemp is extremely closely related to the cannabis sativa plant, closely enough to often fall victim to the misconception that it is just the male plant of cannabis sativa. This is not true actually, and hemp’s scientific name is actually just ‘cannabis’, so it is a whole other plant that has a male and female version of its own. Unlike cannabis sativa, cannabis contains less than 1% THC though, and is instead cultivated for various industrial uses, and also to extract CBD oil from for the production of medicinal oils, balms, tinctures, soaps, lotions, etc.

So What’s CBD Cannabis Oil Then?

Unlike CBD hemp oil, CBD cannabis oil is sourced from cannabis sativa plants. While it’s true that sometimes companies will filter just the CBD into certain products, most CBD cannabis oils also include at least some THC as well as other cannabinoids. CBD hemp oil in the United States has become extremely popular because it is many times easier to legally sell hemp sourced products rather than cannabis sourced ones. For some states with strict regulations that lag behind proven science, it can be very difficult for someone to acquire a CBD product that works for them because the sad truth is that CBD is sometimes not enough on its own. While it can certainly bring great relief to some symptoms for many people, a lot of other people are left suffering because CBD works best in combination with other cannabinoids. The human body is a complex machine and until we fully understand the natural endocannabinoid system found in all mammals, it requires some trial and error for someone to find the perfect medicinal regimen for their particular needs. Hopefully this legislative short sightedness can be resolved sooner rather than later.
